Police are appealing for information after a dead pony was found in Wantage Road, Great Shefford.
The pony was found by a member of the public with its rear legs bound together.
It had been left by the entrance of a small electrical substation.
The pony was young and approximately 11 hands high. Police said it was white with light brown markings and a long coat, so it most likely lived outdoors.
PC Kirsten Goodfield, from Newbury police station, said: “The witness believes that this incident could have occurred between 12.20pm and 1.15pm on Saturday, there were tyre marks leading away from the track that turned left on to the Faringdon Road, so there is a possibility that the offender came from South Oxfordshire”.
Anyone that could help police with their enquiries should contact PC Goodfield via the 24-hour Police Enquiry Centre on 0845 8 505 505.
