THE reintroduction of speed cameras (Oxford Mail, November 3) got me thinking, why?
Then I realised there were councillors who were not attending meetings and therefore not able to claim expenses, and along with their friends in the road safety partnership, perhaps jobs were going to be cut.
The cameras only catch the small minority of speeding motorists.
There will always be people who break the law. Along with us nasty motorists, there are burglars and thieves, who are not pursued with such vigour.
As for statistics, many have been banded about, so here are mine.
My mate Dave and I have been observing motorists since the cameras were turned off.
Between us, we pass five camera boxes every journey into and out of work and not once, no, not once, have we observed a motorist speeding.
During peak times it’s impossible anyway but late at night everyone we have seen obeys the law.
So there you have it. Al and Dave’s statistics, which are worth exactly the same as all the others which have been printed, it’s just we don’t shout the loudest.
And before anybody bangs on about our driving licences, they are the same as the UK entry into the Eurovision Song Contest – nul points.
