AN ELDERLY woman was woken by a man who had broken into her house and crept into the bedroom.
The woman was asleep at home in Monmouth Road, off Abingdon Road, when the man walked in at about 9.30pm on Wednesday. He said he had noticed her house was insecure and asked that she check everything was in place and that her money was safe. While doing this, she noticed two other men in the house.
After they left she found several hundred pounds had been stolen.
The first man, who claimed to be a policeman, was about 5ft 6ins tall, aged between 18 and 20. He had an Irish accent.
Pc Dave Hodsdon said: “Thankfully, the woman was not hurt.”
He urged anyone with information to call him on 08458 505505 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
