OXFORDSHIRE will fall silent this morning as people pay tribute to those who have sacrificed their lives in combat.
Shopping centres, offices and high streets will come to a standstill at 11am for a two-minute silence to mark Armistice Day.
Lord Mayor of Oxford John Goddard will lead the ceremony at Oxford Town Hall, where city council staff and the public will stand together on the hall’s stairway.
The date and time marks the “11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month” of 1918, when the First World War ended.
On Sunday there will be parades and memorial services across the county.
