A man who helped keep Oxford’s streets safe has died.
Malcolm Taylor spent seven years as one of the city council’s senior street wardens, patrolling Blackbird Leys, Rose Hill, Barton and Littlemore, before he retired in May.
He used to work as a TV repair man.
He died last week following a short illness. His funeral was held at Oxford Crematorium, in Headington, yesterday.
Littlemore parish councillor Dorian Hancock said Mr Taylor gave a lot to the community.
He said: “He was a lovely chap. He was extremely well known around Oxford’s estates and did so much to make sure the streets were safe for people to use.
“His death has come as a huge shock. My thoughts are with his family.”
In 2008 Mr Taylor was the driving force behind the junior warden scheme in Blackbird Leys and Rose Hill to keep children active in the summer.
City council community safety manager Richard Adams said: “Malcolm served the communities tirelessly and will be greatly missed.”
