REGARDING Chris Walker’s article about the traffic problems along Botley Road, it is obvious that there are just too many traffic lights from West Way to St Frideswide Square.
It is especially noticeable that when traffic lights are out of action, the traffic runs much better.
The lights at Seacourt Park & Ride are particularly annoying as you can sit there at a red light while nothing comes out of the junction.
Oxfordshire does seem to be obsessed with traffic lights. Another example is the set recently installed at the Botley interchange where the Highways Agency spent £400,000 to install them (as reported in the Oxford Mail). It was a total waste of money.
In all the years I’ve lived in Botley there has hardly ever been a problem, until now.
In fact it was jammed all around the roundabout this morning.
And as for St Frideswide Square – that is a really bad design where buses cut across the road to the opposite side. And there are traffic lights everywhere.
I do not believe widening the station bridge would help Botley Road’s traffic problem. It is the traffic lights that need sorting out.
