THE life and work of folk musician Kate Garrett was remembered at a fundraiser to support young female musicians.
The Dorset-born musician spent much of her career in Oxford as a member of band The Mystics in the 1990s, then as a solo singer and musician, and fronting The Kate Garrett Band.
She died of cancer last year aged 37.
On Tuesday night, folk musician Chris Wood headlined an evening of musical entertainment, entitled King of the Birds, featuring artists including Lisa Fitzgibbon, Jon Fletcher, Duotone, and Matt Sage at The North Wall Arts Centre in Summertown, Oxford.
All the money raised will go to the Young Women’s Music Project, based at the Ark T Centre in Cowley, which Ms Garrett founded and ran for eight years, helping to support numerous young female musicians.
Oxford cellist Barney Morse-Brown, who was married to Ms Garrett, said the event was a sell-out, raising at least £2,500.
He said: “It was a real marker to be able to put something like this together so everyone could share in the emotional side and the celebration of getting all the musicians together.”
