The Motor Sports Association and Britcar Limited have finalised an agreement for the creation of the MSA British Endurance Championship.

The MSA British Endurance Championship will take its place on the MSA-sanctioned roster alongside the UK’s premier championships, including the MSA British Touring Car Championship and the MSA British Rally Championship.

The winners of the new championship will receive their award at the MSA’s prestigious Night of Champions ceremony at Pall Mall.

The new championship will feature a total of eight rounds which will each have a minimum duration of three hours.

The cars will come from the GT2, GT3 and GT4 categories and each car must feature at least two drivers during each race.

The organisers have proposed that next year’s annual 24-hour race at Silverstone will be one of the rounds.

James Tucker, director of Britcar, said: “I am absolutely thrilled to have concluded this deal with the MSA. To create a new British title, ‘The Britcar British Endurance Championship’ is without doubt the biggest honour and it is the culmination of a great deal of hard work and dedication by a number of people. We cannot wait to start the new season.”

Colin Hilton, MSA chief executive, said: “James Tucker’s energy and drive are always pushing the boundaries and while that can often make it difficult for a governing body, it is James’ ability to pursue new ideas and make things happen that makes Britcar the success that it is.

"The MSA British Endurance Championship has earned its place alongside the most prestigious championships in the UK and we look forward to honouring the first champions at the Night of Champions in January 2012.”
