THOUSANDS of funseekers poured into Abingdon yesterday for the annual Ock Street Fair.
The two-day event, the longest street fair in Europe, arrived on Sunday and leaves town tomorrow morning.
More than 15,000 revellers walk the length of Ock Street each night to take in all the different attractions and traffic is diverted away from the town centre.
Yesterday, car dealer Huw Evans, 38, from Abingdon, took his 14-month-old daughter Merryn for a ride on a roundabout.
He said: “I haven’t been to the fair since I was a kid but I thought I would bring Merryn along and it has definitely put a smile on her face.”
Mum-of-two Rachel Herring-Smith, 31, who lives off Ock Street, took her two sons Finley, three, and Jacob, five months, along.
She said: “We can see the fair rides from our kitchen window and Finley watched all the rides being set up.
“He has been looking forward to this for ages and is really chuffed because he managed to get a Ben 10 truck on the end of a hook.”
The fair is also known as the Michaelmas Fair and dates back to the 14th century. It is open between noon and 11pm today.
