Oxfordshire swimmer Simon Burnett helped England to a silver medal in the men's 4x100m freestyle relay on the opening day of competition at the Commonweatlh Games in Delhi.
Burnett, from Tetsworth, produced an impressive second length to hand over to backstroke specialist Liam Tancock in second.
Tancock, the world 50m backstroke champion, produced a superb swim as he tussled with former world record holder Eamon Sullivan.
Grant Turner kept England in contention just adrift of Australia, and on the final turn Adam Brown took the lead.
However, he could not hold on as Australia touched for the gold medal in 3mins 13.92secs with England second in 3.15.05, 0.16secs ahead of South Africa.
