OXFORDSHIRE County Council bosses could be treading on thin ice by heralding enlarged grit supplies for the coming winter.

It is keen to trumpet that it didn’t run out during January’s prolonged snow – yet this is not the instance many drivers would measure it by, given that they had to navigate treacherous roads, many of which were simply impassable.

So a third more grit might be enough – but given the unprecedented conditions we saw earlier this year, they could find themselves slipping over.
