WITNEY and Thame are to get super-fast Internet access, BT has announced.
This would allow download speeds of up to 40Mbps, potentially rising to 60Mbps in the future.
Lesley Semaine, chairman of Witney Chamber of Trade and Commerce, welcomed the new proposals.
She said: “I am sure a lot of our businesses in Witney would find this extremely useful.
“The more efficient companies are, the more competitive they are - and they might just get that edge with this.
“With all the current facilities on the internet, and with a growing younger generation, I’m sure these plans will go down really well.”
The telecoms giant wants to install fibre optic cable hubs and then run copper cabling from these to properties.
The firm’s Openreach scheme is part of a £2.5bn UK development of super-fast broadband.
John Weaver, BT’s South East regional director, said: “Fibre broadband has the power to revolutionise the way we use the internet.
“People in these areas will soon be able to experience the internet as they’ve never seen it before.”
