HEALTH workers and their supporters took their protest against proposed county job cuts to the streets last night.
About 60 workers gathered outside Carfax in Cornmarket, pictured, to take a stand against £45m of NHS cuts in the county.
On Saturday, the Oxford Mail revealed 1,900 jobs could be lost at NHS Oxfordshire, the county’s primary care trust (PCT). Unions claim this is nearer 4,000, which is denied by the trust.
Unison representatives from the county’s hospital, PCT and mental health authorities took part.
They warned the job losses ‘will cause a severe loss of NHS services, lengthening waiting lists leading to untold suffering among patients’.
In a statement they said: “It will also cause a steep rise in local unemployment with thousands being forced to rely on state benefits.
“It will undermine the whole economy across Oxfordshire.”
