DRIVERS in Abingdon are being warned that two town centre streets will soon be occupied by the Ock Street Fair.
The fair sets up in the town on Sunday and runs on Monday and Tuesday.
Steve Rich, projects and technical manager for Abingdon Town Council, said: “It’s very popular and we estimate 15,000 people attend each night on Monday and Tuesday.
“The fair then packs up and is ready to leave early on Wednesday.
“We like to think we can open the roads in the town centre by about 7am in time for the rush-hour.”
Mr Rich reminded drivers that High Street and Ock Street would remain closed for the duration of the fair, and added: “It might not be the largest but this is reputed to be the longest street fair in Europe and there is no through-traffic in the town centre when it is here.”
Traffic coming over Abingdon Bridge will be diverted along East St Helen Street, St Helen’s Wharf, and Caldecott Road onto Ock Street.
Traffic approaching Ock Street from Marcham Road will be diverted along Spring Road and Faringdon Road into Bath Street.
Mr Rich added: “The diversions will be well signposted and there will be a 7.5-tonne weight limit on entering the town centre.”
