Once again as with last weeks game at Boults Lane, this really lived up to the “a game of two halves” cliché. Summertown were certainly much quicker out of the blocks, as Marston struggled to organise themselves defensively, Galaxy creating a chance within the first 30 seconds that the Marston goalkeeper and defence did well to clear.

This was much the pattern for the next 10-15 minutes, with Galaxy’s Milo Murgatroyd causing constant problems for the Saints defence. The pressure finally told when Jamie Curtis latched onto a defence splitting pass and finished neatly.

To Saints credit, they looked bright when able to push forward and were back in the game within minutes, as a slick passing move ended with Cameron Homer tucking the ball home. However, Galaxy soon settled back into the groove and again defensive lapses allowed them to extend the lead at half-time to 3-1 with strikes from Ryan Samor and Paule Marcetta.

The start of the second half saw the Marston defence and midfield finally starting to impose themselves on the game. After missing some great chances, Saints got back into the game, when Arthur Galley latched onto a through ball and expertly finished into the corner.

With seven minutes to go, the equaliser finally came courtesy of a corner from Joshua Josephs and a clever, instinctive finish from Cameron Homer. Marston continued to press for the winner and Arthur Galley nearly won the match with almost the last kick of the match with a looping shot, but the Galaxy goalkeeper rose to claim it with his fingertips and make a good save.

Both teams played the game in the right way, an exciting game that either side could have won. This was also helped by the excellent refereeing. Well done to all involved.
