Quarry headed way out west to Court Farm Place and showed true grit in this (nearly) top-of-the-table gunfight. In the first half the Quarry goal at times resembled Fort Apache, with City's five man army often threatening in front of a solid defence. Some great keeping from Milton managed to maintain the silence, but when City scored the tombstone to Quarry's unbeaten start to the season was being dusted down. But the second half saw the return of Quarry's magnificent seven, with butch Toby and the Steane kid fast and strong at the back, Isaac a giant in goal and Alex the deadly tracker in mid-field, allowing nobody through. Little big man Jacob and Lemonade Jo Dee fizzed up and down the wings, causing problems and tt would be an outrage not to mention Milton, the original shootist, who latched on to Toby's long ball and, like the quick gun he is, drilled it unstoppably, past the solid City keeper.
That brought about the last challenge, as City poured forward like desperados to reclaim the lead. For a few minutes more it might have been a different result, but as the players rode into the sunset a draw was a fair result. In the second game a strong City side attacked from the outset like the posse from hell, and it was only some valiant defending from Quarry's Sargeants Three, Oliver, Kane and Azlan that kept them in the game. Lonely are the brave and so was Louis in goal, keeping his cool and making some good saves to keep the score down. Up front Adam resembled Custer of the west, a lone arrow, but he very nearly took scored. Burhan had a lively game on the left but with little chance to attack. Edward on the right wing was notable from start to finish, showing great will to win. In the second half Azlan, in possibly his best games yet, went forward, and Adam dropped to defend. Also worthy of note was defender Kane, who improves every game with his strength and timing in the tackle. As mobility improves he is going to be an outstanding player.
City's constant pressure told and they were the worthy winners. Sometimes the other team have too much on the day but Quarry fought to the end and should be proud.
Quarry's Tres Hombres of management declared themselves 'happy' with the performance and look secure for now against any bullets for the generals.
