DONKEYS at a sanctuary near Wallingford have a comfortable new home, thanks to £75,000 fundraising drive.
Four years ago the Island Farm Donkey Sanctuary in Brightwell-cum-Sotwell received a £50,000 donation.
Now, following further donations, the sanctuary has built a 140ft-long shelter for 80 donkeys, along with a visitor centre.
Wantage MP Ed Vaizey visited the site on Saturday to officially open the new shelter.
Sanctuary chairman John McClaren said: “In the past, we would get the donkeys in from the fields about 4.30pm at night and then they would have to be put in separate boxes.
“But now the donkeys will have more freedom and will be able to use this shelter together.
“We work closely with the RSPCA and donkeys come to us from all over the country."
