A GANG of four men with 72 previous convictions between them have been convicted of an attack on a takeaway driver.
Turkish deliveryman Hakkani Nergiz was set upon in Preston Road, Abingdon, on April 2 as he carried food from Sami’s in the town.
Craig Pitts, 21, was convicted by a jury at Oxford Crown Court on Friday of racially aggravated assault.
Daniel Rumley, 25, was acquitted of racially aggravated assault, but admitted ABH. Luke Jarvis, 20, was also cleared of racially aggravated assault, but convicted of ABH.
Alistair Aitkins, 30, did not stand trial after admitting ABH.
Judge Bruce McIntyre said prison sentences were “inevitable” for all four men.
Pitts, of no fixed address, has nine previous convictions.
Rumley, of Larkhill Road, Abingdon, has 27, including 16 for violence.
Jarvis, of Midget Close, Abingdon, has 12 previous convictions and Aitkins, of Preston Road, Abingdon, has 24.
The four were remanded in custody to be sentenced at Reading Crown Court on October 22.
