After an encouraging start Brightwell let the match slip in a fifteen minute second half spell and never recovered despite two late Joe Webber goals.

Brightwell had the best of the early exchanges and went close twice when Dellan Thornton’s strike was disallowed for off-side and Alex Halsey crashed a long-range effort off the bar. Despite AFCB dominating possession in the first 20 minutes it was Kidlington who took the lead 5 minutes before the interval when the impressive Liam Rogan finished a counter attack with a terrific left footed strike over Finn Becket in the AFCB goal.

AFCB went close again before the half finished with Dominic Booth, Joe Webber and Danny Beaumont all in on the action. After the restart the balance of play swung quickly to Kidlington as AFCB lost some of their earlier composure. Kidlington held their shape well at the back and began to control the ball through midfield. Five minutes into the second period Kidlington struck again and when two more goals came in quick succession the contest was all but over. With the second period half over Kidlington put the result out of reach of AFCB when they scored a fifth and set the score at 5-0.

That said, someone forgot to tell a Brightwell side that never stopped battling and with just 10 minutes to go Joe Webber out ran the Kidlington defence to score and gave the home side something to cheer about. A second goal by Webber inside the last 5 minutes made the score a little more respectable and was perhaps a fairer reflection on a game which for large parts had been dominated by AFCB.

On balance the result was about right and highlighted the different level of focus the two teams gave to their defensive duties.
