COLIN Profett and Rosalind Knowland, both 14, pupils at Marlborough School, were successful in a stamp designing competition run by the Post Office in Oxfordshire and Berkshire in 1973. Colin won the 13-14 age group class with his design on a European Common Market theme, while Rosalind came third with her drawing of a monk. About 2,000 children entered and the best designs were considered for future stamp issues.

Children at Woodstock Primary School carried out a traffic census outside the school in 1965. The idea was to give them practical exercise in mathematics and make them aware of dangers on the road.
