ONCE again Jean Fooks, Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrat Opposition on Oxfordshire County Council rants about the switching off of the speed cameras (Oxford Mail, September 22).
How can she blame the council, for switching off the cameras when it was the Liberal Democrat and Conservative Coalition which made the sweeping cuts, which initiated the camera turn-off throughout the county?
She also made a sweeping generalised statement, saying it was the Conservative administration at County Hall which was responsible for the camera switch-off in our region, and for any consequent speeding and increase in accidents.
Perhaps Ms Fooks is not familiar with the law. It is the drivers who will be responsible in every case of speeding, not the Conservatives.
It will also be the drivers who will be responsible for any accidents, not the Conservatives.
Does she realise that Thames Valley Police is still checking for speeding drivers?
All this political rhetoric bores me and really shows how the Conservative-Liberal Coalition is really working behind closed doors when they are at each others’ throats.
Councillors must get their facts right and stop scaremongering without statistics.
They should try to work with the council instead of against it – especially when they are part of the coalition that brought in these cuts in the first place.
