Sir – Mrs Lewis (letter, September 16) is right to express outrage at the new Oxford Airport hangar on Campsfield Road. It is 120m long, 37m wide and 13.5m high. Cherwell District Council rejected this site in the Green Belt for a hangar four years ago. Oxford Aviation Services then discovered that, due to an obscure clause in the Civil Aviation Act, they can erect hangars anywhere on the airfield that they wish, without needing planning permission.
Those readers who consider that this is unfair and unacceptable should write to Eric Pickles MP, Secretary of State for Community and Local Government, to ask for a change in the law. If one’s local MP is requested to forward the letter to Mr Pickles, protocol demands that he must reply himself rather than delegating to a junior.
