Sir – Thousands of Oxfordshire residents have been kept awake and deprived of any sleep.
A Cassington “Farewell to the Field” rave, licensed, according to Thames Valley Police (who knew, yet didn’t mitigate the din) and environmental health in Oxford, by West Oxfordshire District Council, has kept these thousands of good local people and little me in Jericho (and doubtless many others in at least a 4.5-mile radius!) sore-eyed and exhausted, with its unrelenting, torturing, pitiless thump, thump, thump base cacophony and bedlam all night.
Apparently, this event was listed online, but I couldn’t find it. Their licence expired at 6am Sunday — 6am!
Who, in their right mind, would license this intolerable noise all night? Which individual/s? Heads should roll. Do these reckless folk aim to create a risk of counter-nuisance, vigilante action or even Molotov terrorism against the sound system or whoever allowed it? I hope not.
I have learned that many complaints were received during this windless, still night. More complaints may follow. It’s for the media to elicit how many. For each complaint received, maybe another hundred souls didn’t trouble to contact authorities, or seek relief. If others endured this, I’d be interested to hear about it.
Annoying beyond description, this public nuisance and breach of the peace should never be permitted anywhere in a populated area again!
