The Henley College was recently awarded a new designation as a sixth form college by the Department of Education, the first college in the country to be granted this change of status.

It recognises that the college is the sixth form for its four partner schools — Gillotts, Chiltern Edge, Langtree and Icknield — as well as the leading provider of education in Oxfordshire for 16 to 18 year-olds The college is situated in one of the most beautiful towns in the Thames Valley and attracts students from a wide area.

This very successful college provides a high-quality post-16 education for the young people of South Oxfordshire.

In addition, as its reputation has spread, it has now become the number one choice for a large number of students from about 100 other schools in Buckinghamshire and Berkshire.

The Henley College was awarded Beacon status by the Department for Education and, as the only Beacon College in Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire, provides outstanding teaching and learning.

The college offers a rich and broad curriculum with more than 40 AS/A-Level subjects, the highly-regarded International Baccalaureate and a wide range of vocational courses at various levels. Examination success is very high and this year the number of A* and A grades at A2 increased by more than four per cent. Most students progress to universities throughout the UK and in total more than 650 students apply to many of the best universities, including Oxford and Cambridge. As well as their main course, all students can take a large number of enrichment activities including sport, music and drama.

Students have the opportunity to take part in World Challenge and there are many trips abroad.

The college has its own theatre company, The Completely Cuckoo Theatre Company, which performs at a professional venue, Norden Farm, and there is an annual rock musical or play. In sport, the college has set up a sports development programme in the sports of rowing, rugby, football, netball, hockey and basketball.

The college has successful partnerships with Leander Rowing Club, Upper Thames, Wasps Rugby Club and Reading Rockets.

The ski teams are regularly represented at the national finals as well as events abroad.
