Oxford City went into the game looking to put an indifferent performance behind them from the week before. City started well and it wasn’t long before they started to pepper the Garsington goal with shots. However after dominating the 1st half City went into the interval level with the Garsington goalkeeper in fine form.
The half-time team talk seemed to do the trick as it wasn’t long after the restart that City took a deserved lead. A good team goal that was created in the midfield, with the ball being spread out wide to the right hand side for Luca Davies, who put in a fantastic cross that was met by the diving head of Samii Rashid to make it 0-1.
This seemed to calm the City players down who then started to play some beautiful passing football. Daniel Fegan in the centre of midfield was breaking down the Garsington play and winning the ball with some determined tackling, before passing the ball simply to the attackers. Matt Harris was pulling the strings as the playmaker and sewing passes from defence to attack.
It didn’t take long for City to score their second goal. Another great cross from Luca Davies was met and coolly finished again by Samii Rashid. Samii Rashid soon completed his hat-trick from another flowing team move.
The fourth goal came from some fine work by Daniel Fegan which released Matt Harris to unleash a shot which was heading straight into the goal; however it was met by Luca Davies who forced it over the line. The final goal came from more great work from the defence (of Kyle Hanlon and Ryan Dazley, who never put a foot wrong) who passed the ball out to enable Matt Harris to put through a defence splitting pass for Samii Rashid to run onto, who then slotted home his fourth and City’s fifth goal.
It was a great result against a determined Garsington team, who never gave up for the entire game and were a great credit to their manager.
City gave an assured team performance from Brandon May in goal (who was always reliable on the couple of occasions he was called upon) through to the six outfield players.
