It’s with great pleasure that I’m able to announce the Oxford Times Wine Club dinner, featuring Virginia’s Boxwood Winery on Tuesday, October 19, at The Cherwell Boathouse.
A not-to-be-missed evening, it is a chance to drink internationally acclaimed wines from a region that has a wine history dating back some 400 years, but which is only just starting to have a presence on UK wine lists. In short, this is your chance to get ahead of the crowd.
The dinner will be led by Rachel Martin, Boxwood’s day-to-day estate manager who trained in both California and Bordeaux; the latter representing the red wine style that Rachel so enthusiastically seeks to emulate.
I first tasted the wine about a year ago and thought the Boxwood wines were amongst Virginia’s most exciting and so when the opportunity to show these wines at our October dinner presented itself, I jumped at the chance.
Situated in the midst of picturesque Loudoun County estates of Virginia, Middleburg’s Boxwood Winery make stylish wines from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Malbec.
As you might expect, work in the vineyard and winery is focused on delivering premium-quality wines, and in order to maximise their efforts, Boxwood also have the consultant, Stéphane Derenoncourt on the team.
He is a world-renowned winemaker who works at some of Bordeaux’s leading wineries and he brings his rigorous standards to Boxwood where he helps put together the final blends.
Rachel is a passionate and well-informed speaker and we are thrilled she is making the trip from the USA at such a busy time of year to help make this a truly special evening. In keeping with all The Oxford Times Wine Club Dinners, we are working hard to ensure that we have the right balance of world-class wines, a delicious three-course meal and an entertaining and well-informed speaker, all in a relaxed and convivial atmosphere.
All of which makes the £49.95 price tag a very fair price indeed. Tickets are selling quickly already and if you’d like to join us, please contact Theo Sloot at The Oxford Wine Company to book a place. You can reach him on 01865 301144 or theo@oxfordwine.co.uk We hope you can make it and look forward to seeing you there.
