Police today released a CCTV image of two men they want to speak to about an assault on a taxi driver in south Oxfordshire.
At about 2.40am on July 18, a 32-year-old taxi driver picked up three men in Greys Road, who asked to be taken to Wallingford.
The men were verbally abusive to the driver, and he stopped his vehicle in Fairmile.
The man in the front seat took about £12.50 in cash from one of the vehicle compartments, then got out of the taxi, walked round to the driver’s door, and hit the driver in the face.
The victim called for help using his radio and another taxi driver appeared. The second taxi driver was then assaulted by the same passenger, before all three passengers ran away. One man received minor injuries.
The man who assaulted the drivers, and is pictured in the CCTV, was white, of muscular build, approximately 5ft 2in tall, and in his early to mid-twenties. He had short cropped blonde hair and was wearing a white short-sleeved shirt and blue jeans.
The second man, also pictured, was white, about 5ft 4in tall, in his early to mid-twenties and slim. He was wearing a long-sleeved shirt.
The third man involved was mixed race, about 5ft 8in tall, and in his early to mid-twenties.
PC Jamie Pitcher, investigating the assault and theft from the vehicle, said: “All three men had been in the kebab shop on Greys Road just before they were picked up by the taxi, and the CCTV image shows two of the offenders in the shop.
“We have only recently obtained the CCTV image showing these offenders, and are hopeful witnesses may have seen these men in Henley in the night in question or recognise them from the image and description.
“I would urge anyone who recognises the men or has any information about the incident to contact me.”
