Police are appealing for witnesses after a robbery near to Tesco in Ambassador Avenue, Cowley, last night.
At around 8.45pm, a 26-year-old Polish man was walking home with a bag of shopping from Tesco. He walked through the car park and via the underpass to Oxford Business Park South and on to the cycle path.
There he was surrounded by a group of between six and ten young men who were wearing scarves around their faces and hooded tops. They pushed him to the ground, punched him in the face and stole his shopping.
The man managed to run away and sustained only minor injuries, including red marks on his head. He did not need to go to hospital.
The bag of shopping that was taken contained fruit, vegetables, bread and eggs.
Det Con Steve Martin, of the Priority Crime Team, said: “This was a mindless and amateur attempt at a robbery. I would like to speak to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area at the time.
“In particular, I’d like to speak to anyone that may have had a problem with a group of young people in the area, or in Blackbird Leys or Rose Hill that day. The group of men were wearing hooded tops and some had bicycles with them.”
