Police officers are carrying out a series of enforcement checks targeting drivers and passengers who fail to wear seatbelts.
Officers were at Seacourt park-and-ride in Oxford for two-and-a-half hours today carrying out checks to coincide with a week-long seatbelt campaign organised by TISPOL, the European Traffic Police Network.
In total, 47 people received fixed penalty notices for not wearing seatbelts, while ten people received fixed penalty notices for using a mobile phone while driving.
One person was arrested on suspicion of having no insurance or driving licence.
Sgt Mark Ponting, of Abingdon Roads Policing Unit, said: “This was the first in a series of targeted checks being carried out at different locations across Oxfordshire this week.
“The fact we issued almost 60 fixed penalty notices in just two and a half hours, shows people are continuing to flout the law and put not only their own safety at risk, but also that of other road users.
“Even when this latest campaign comes to an end, we will continue to be robust in our efforts to ensure drivers take road safety seriously.”
