Hinksey Park opened their new campaign with a sign of intent as they swept aside Didcot Casuals B, registering 20 goals without reply. As far as we can tell from existing records, this is the team's record win, and it is certainly their best start to a season.

After a nervous opening, once last season's leading scorer Jason Crowder broke the deadlock, followed by two goals in quick succession from midfield powerhouse Jake Millicheap, there was only going to be one winner. Didcot defended valiantly, but despite getting in lots of blocks and challenges, they had no answer to the pace of the three-man Hinksey Park front line.

At half-time, the visitors led 8-0, with new signing Jamie Furlong having already notched four goals on his debut, and right-winger Isaac Kenchington also getting in on the act. There was no respite for Didcot in the second period as the Hinksey Park defence mopped up any threat from the home attackers to set up further goals for the rampaging visitors. Half-time substitute Zac Gunaratnam-Bailey opened his account as Millicheap vied unsuccessfully with Furlong to see who could score more, with the debutant eventually grabbing six to the midfielder's five goals. Alexander Hamdi converted a Crowder free-kick to open his account, while Samuel Eshiwani got in on the action to grab two opening-day goals. At the back, Joseph Hardwick, playing in goal for the first time, hardly had a touch, while captain Patrick Pevsner and alongside him debutant defender Matthew Bonsaver were solid in the challenge to ensure that the Didcot forwards failed to threaten. With full-backs Willem MacDonald and William Hicks equally assured this proved a comfortable day for the visitors' defence

The crumb of comfort for the Didcot players is that they are unlikely to come up against many teams with the hunger and attacking prowess of Hinksey Park, who themselves must not get carried away with the size of this scoreline. For both sides there is still a lot of football to be played, and first-day results can often be misleading.

Scorers: Furlong 6, Millicheap 5, Crowder 2, Eshiwani 2, Gunaratnam-Bailey 2, Hamdi 2, Kenchington 1
