Marston Saints and Wheatley played out a thrilling opening game in the Under 10's Green League. Both sides played open attractive football, with the referee allowing the game to flow. Wheatley took the lead mid way through the first half through Charlie Elliott. Shortly after Wheatley doubled their league with an excellent finish by Harry Cudd, following a defence splitting ball from deep in their own half.
Marston Saints then had a strong spell of pressure, and pulled a goal back through Awadh Mohamed, following excellent wing play from Daniel Coates. Ethan Collins then struck the bar before half time.
The second half continued the end to end action, with Marston Saints taking their opportunities with goals from Brandon Reed-Strahan and a second for Awadh Mohamed. Wheatley never gave up, and were denied what many thought would have been a deserved equaliser by a superb last ditch tackle by Sam Pennick late on. If the season continues like this we are in for an enjoyable if not tense time.
