Oxford band Foals missed out last night on the £20,000 Mercury Prize.
The most prestigious award in the annual music calendar went to the band xx for their debut album xx.
The London-based three-piece formed in 2005 and released their album in August last year.
Foals were shortlisted for their album Total Life Forever with 11 other shortlisted acts including favourite Paul Weller, Biffy Clyro and Dizzee Rascal.
The award ceremony, hosted by Jools Holland, took place last night at the Grosvenor House Hotel in central London.
