A CARE home has said goodbye to a “dedicated” member of staff after almost 30 years of service.

Rona Gedde, 62, a clinical care manager, had worked at Rush Court Care Home, in Wallingford, for 29 years, before retiring last week.

She now plans to go travelling with nearly £1,000 worth of vouchers given to her by staff at the home.

A retirement party was held in the gardens of the home, in Shillingford Road, to say goodbye. Rachel Wood, administration assistant, said: “The celebration was amazing. More than 100 people turned up and the weather stayed fantastic.

“Many tears were shed for Rona after the speeches but she glowed with appreciation.”

Ruth Barber, 89, a resident for five years, who was previously a volunteer at Rush Court, said: “I have known Rona for nearly 30 years. She has been a loyal supporter to Rush Court in every way, and we shall miss her dearly.”

Lilly Tibble, 96, a resident of four years said: “Rona has always been so pleasant. I really don’t know what we will do without her.”

Victoria Powis, a senior care assistant for 10 years, said: “I have always respected Rona. She is fantastic at what she does, and it was a pleasure being trained by her.”

Gwyneth Clarke, a nurse at the home for 21 years, said: “She has been a fantastic strength to us all and will be much missed.”
