TWO friends are to drive a £150 rally car across Europe dressed as the T-Birds from the film Grease to raise money to help an Abingdon boy who needs a bowel transplant.
Richard Ball and Chris Wilson will take part in the Ramshackle Rally to support the Biggs family.
Luke Biggs, 13, is one of a handful of people in the UK to suffer from Hirschsprung’s disease, which causes constipation and bowel obstructions. His family are his full-time carers.
Mr Ball and Mr Wilson left on Thursday to drive through France, Switzerland, Italy and Slovenia to Croatia.
Mr Ball, 42, of New Road, Radley, said he and Mr Wilson, 37, of St Hugh’s Rise, Didcot, wanted to do what they could to help.
He said: “I couldn’t do a marathon, I couldn’t jump out of a plane but what I can do is drive and make a fool out of myself.”
He added: “Luke is amazing. I can’t remember the last time I saw him sad. He loves life and he has a great family who support him.
“They are such a positive family and you can sometimes forget what they go through every day.”
The John Mason School pupil has been on a transplant waiting list for six months and is kept alive by nutrients pumped into his bloodstream.
His father Ian Biggs, 43, said: “The transplant will change his life instantly. He cannot wait for that day.”
But Mr Biggs said a donor was hard to find, as the bowel is not included on organ donor forms and the donor has to be living when it is transferred.
Luke spent the first six months of his life in hospital. He had a transplant in 2005 but his body rejected it last year.
The family, of Alexander Close, said they have enjoyed a lot of support from other people.
Mr Biggs said: “It makes you feel brilliant, and lets you know you are in the right circle of friends. You know they’re there for you and willing you along.”
