Sir – All the faith communities in Oxford are deeply concerned about the suffering people in Pakistan (Report, August 19).
As chairman of Oxford Council of Faiths I have contacted all the communities represented on the council with details of how to donate through the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC).
All the faith leaders are encouraged to collect for the need of those affected by the floods. There is both a need for immediate help and also for long-term assistance.
With this in mind, Oxford Council of Faiths will be collecting at their National Interfaith Week Evening of Entertainment on November 23 at Oxford Town Hall. This free evening of entertainment has contributions from across the faith communities of the city.
While encouraging people to give what they can now, we hope that in three months’ time people will be mindful of the aftermath of the floods. (Last year the collection of more than £400 was given to Save the Children Fund).
Bede Gerrard, Chairman, Oxford Council of Faiths
