HUNDREDS of people in Banbury attended a fundraising family fun day to raise money for the victims of the Pakistan flooding disaster.
The Sunrise Multicultural Project hosted the event at the Fairway Methodist Church on Saturday.
Fozia Nazir is pictured giving a treat to Charlie the parrot, who was there to greet visitors. Asian food was on sale and activities included a bouncy castle, nail art, face-painting, Indian head massage and fairground rides.
Assia Bibi, 37, the project’s manager, said: “I’m originally from Kashmir and the Pakistan flood victims are very close to our hearts here in Banbury, and people want to do everything they can to show support.
“Normally we raise about £300 with our fun days but this time I’m hoping we raised about £600. The town’s Rotary Club, which supported the day, is raising money to buy tents to send out to Pakistan, so the money we raise might go towards that.”
Ms Bibi said volunteers from the church, which hosted the event free of charge, helped to run the fun day. She added: “People have been very supportive .
“This event was not just for the Asian community. We went into the Market Place and invited everyone to come along.”
