FOUR men who helped build a village bus shelter are seen putting the finishing touches to it in 1959. The inscription read: “Built by the people of Bletchingdon.”
The seocond picture was taken in 1960 when a debate was raging over whether the village should be called Bletchington or Bletchingdon. Three men – Mr WJ Bathe, 58, Isaac Savins, 71, and James Golder, 72 – were discussing the matter over a well, perhaps seeking inspiration from divine water. They favoured Bletchington.
In the third picture, Michael and Nicola Godfrey are hunting for treasure at the village fete in 1985. It was organised by the village youth club, which was celebrating its 33rd birthday. The proceeds went into the club’s fund to buy a new minibus.
