SQUATTERS have been turfed out of a house in East Oxford.
At least four members of the public complained about the noise from a house in St Mary’s Road on Monday, August 16.
Two days later, the landlord, backed by the police and Oxford City Council’s Crime and Nuisance Action Team, swooped on the end-of terrace property and evicted four people.
Sgt Lewis Boyce, of the East Oxford neighbourhood team, said the squatters had only been there for a couple of days before residents began complaining.
He said: “We think up to about eight people we think had been using it. People were shouting and causing a disturbance in the early hours of the morning.
“Lead had been stripped from the inside and there was drug paraphernalia, it was a mess.”
Two people, whose ages are unknown, were arrested on suspicion of possessing a class A drug. Sgt Boyce said the squatters left peacefully on request of the landlord, and there was no need for a court order.
One mother-of-two, who asked not to be named, said: “I heard noise and the property looks a real mess. It’s good they’re gone.”
