A driver chased a thief who tried to break into a car in the White Horse Hill car park in Uffington.
The 51-year-old owner of a silver Volkswagen Golf returned to his car to find a man trying to break into it.
The owner shouted at the man and chased after him, but lost sight of him.
He is described as white, aged between 25 and 30, stocky, with dark-coloured hair and stubble. He was wearing shorts, trainers and a blue jacket.
The attempted theft happened at about 5.30pm on August 19, but details were only released today.
PC Jon Bodinham said: “I would like to hear from anyone who was visiting the area and might have seen this man.
“Perhaps you saw someone matching this description looking at other vehicles, or perhaps you recognise the description of the man?
“I would urge anyone with information to come forward as soon as possible.”
Anyone with information should contact PC Bodinham via the 24-hour Thames Valley Police Enquiry Line on 0845 8 505 505. Alternatively, you can contact the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
