I WOULD like to invite Chris Robins (Oxford Mail Viewpoints, August 10) to give me one good reason why Oxfordshire’s council taxpayers should have to spend £600,000 on operating speed cameras to enable the Treasury to collect the fines arising from them?
I didn’t invent that crazy rule; neither did the Liberal-Conservative coalition government, but Gordon Brown and the previous Labour government did. The sooner the whole nonsense is unwound, the better.
Keith R Mitchell, Leader of the Council, County Hall, New Road, Oxford
