I WAS surprised to read (Oxford Mail, July 22) that there were no memorials dedicated to the memory of Cardinal Newman in Oxford.
I may be wrong but I believe that Newman Road and Cardinal Close in Littlemore were named in his memory. Also, Cardinal House, which is undergoing refurbishment, will be ready for occupation by the end of the year.
These ‘gems’ may not be much when compared to what has been planned at Woodstock Road, but wouldn’t it be nice for a change that should Pope Benedict XVI visit Oxford, he paid a visit to places where Cardinal Newman is remembered.
What a boost it would be for the residents of Littlemore, and should his itinerary next month be changed to include these places, I would consider the event a miracle.
