Police are appealing for witnesses after a distraction burglary at the home of an 85-year-old man in Bampton yesterday.
At about 2pm a man called at the door of the man's home in Main Street and said he believed he had run over the man’s cat.
The elderly man and the thief then spent some time looking for the cat, before it was found safe and well.
However, shortly after this the victim discovered his jacket had been stolen along with his wallet, which contained bank cards and some cash.
The offender is described as white, about 6ft tall, and of medium build. He was wearing a grey pullover.
Det Con Kevin Middlecote said: “I would like to urge people to always take precautions whenever you have someone you do not know calling at your door.
“Never let a stranger into your home and if you do have someone calling at your home like this, ensure that no other windows or doors are open elsewhere in your house.
“If you are at all unsure about someone, or you feel intimidated, concerned or worried, do not hesitate to call the police.”
