I shall be voting for Ed Miliband in Labour’s leadership election.
We are spoilt for choice with our five candidates. But to my mind Ed will tackle climate change, is committed to voting reform and will not get us involved in more foreign wars.
Ed Miliband spoke to a packed public meeting at Oxford Town Hall last year, and has the passion and vision to appeal not just to traditional Labour voters but to people from a wide range of political views. Hundreds of new members have joined the Labour Party in Oxford since the General Election, and any Oxford Mail readers joining the party before September 8 will also be able to vote for the new leader.
We need someone with backing from Labour MPs, who looks good on TV and can change the Labour Party to win.
We need a party leader and a Prime Minister who can move our country away from the divisive and disastrous policies of this Tory/Lib Dem Coalition.
But whoever wins will have my full support. Faced with the dangerous nonsense of cuts-for-cuts sake by the coalition, we need to to stand together to defend the NHS, jobs, homes and a decent future for our children.
