RUSH-HOUR traffic came to a standstill yesterday after a collision between a lorry and a pedestrian at a south Oxford roundabout.
Police were called at 6.43am following the accident at the Kennington roundabout.
The Southern bypass was closed in both directions to allow officers to complete their investigation and to recover the vehicle.
The closure caused lengthy delays for drivers heading north and south on the A34 until restrictions were lifted at 11.15am, as well as back on the Eastern Bypass At one stage, southbound traffic on the A34 tailed back to the Peartree interchange.
Thames Valley Police spokesman Rebecca Webber said a 46-year-old man was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford suffering serious injuries. He is now in a stable condition.
Witnesses are asked to call police on 08458 505505 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
