A MUM who claimed a flasher exposed himself at her up to 40 times in one day spoke last night about her relief that he was behind bars.
Rachel Brandon waived her right to anonymity to enable the Oxford Mail to reveal Nicholas Farrelly was exposing himself to his neighbours in Greater Leys.
She gave evidence in court that he was continually exposing himself to her and her children as they played in their back garden.
The 25-year-old, of Cherry Close, was convicted by a jury of one count of exposure at Oxford Crown Court on Wednesday but cleared of another count involving another woman.
Miss Brandon said she had to stop her sons aged six and 11 playing football on their lawn after Farrelly appeared at his window, which overlooks the garden, completely naked on April 6.
She told the jury she believed he exposed himself between 30 and 40 times.
Last night she said: “I am glad he has been convicted. I just could not believe someone would stand there and do that while the kids were playing in the garden.
“He was looking straight at me as if to say ‘look, I am proud’.
“I had to explain to my children that it is not normal and it’s unacceptable to behave like that.”
She added: “I called the police and wanted to do everything properly because I didn’t want him doing this to any other family.
“You would like to think all your children are safe in their own garden.”
The jury heard Farrelly was arrested at 9.15pm after a large gang of youths congregated outside his flat chanting “paedo”.
Miss Brandon said she noticed something was not right soon after Farrelly moved into the first-floor council flat at the end of 2009.
She said: “When he first moved in he would come to the window and stare. I thought maybe he was checking out his surroundings, but then he would do it in his boxer shorts and then, on that day, he was naked. It’s worrying to think what he could have done next – he could have approached me in the street or when I’m out with my children.”
During the two-day trial, Farrelly told jurors he had not deliberately exposed himself. He said he could not afford curtains and used Blu-Tack and nails to fix sheets to the window, but they often fell down.
He admitted paying £80 for sex with a prostitute that day and was still “feeling quite horny” when he returned home to drink cider and listen to music while “probably naked” or in his boxer shorts.
Giving evidence, he said doctors were “unclear” whether he showed signs of schizophrenia.
He added: “At the moment I am under the impression I should be getting complex-needs therapy.”
Recorder James Guthrie remanded him in custody to be sentenced on September 17.
