Sir – You have published as a matter of great public interest for three successive weeks a photo of the proposed incinerator with its 82-metre high chimney stack that was refused Oxfordshire County Council planning permission in October 2009.
Following an appeal by the applicant company, an enquiry was held in Banbury for three weeks in July. The planning inspector is now preparing his report and the Secretary of State will issue their decision(s) by January 14, 2011.
It was interesting to learn last week that the cabinet of Oxfordshire County Council proposes to sign a contract to construct this incinerator without waiting for the result of that enquiry and that five members of the growth and infrastructure scrutiny committee agreed to proceed with this 35-year contract without knowing the full details, including the cost — some £632m.
