Sir – I moved to Oxford three years ago and I was delighted to find that Oxfordshire County Council provided a large skip for recycling light plastics at the Redbridge Recycling Depot, as such plastics can account for 50 per cent of waste which would otherwise go to landfill.
However, I was amazed to discover last month that the county council have decided to restrict the collection of plastics to only types 1 & 2. My request for a reason for this detrimental move elicited the reply that the previous signage was unclear!
Therefore, I contacted one of my county councillors by email on July 17 and I await her response with interest.
This decision has meant that I have to put out the wheelie bin for landfill every fortnight instead of once every two months.
I consider that the Government and retailers (especially supermarkets) should insist that suppliers use only recyclable materials made from recycled plastic and that councils should join together to provide comprehensive collection facilities for all types of soft plastics.
