OXFORD’S Gang Show is seeking someone to tinkle the ivories so that young performers can start rehearsing for next year’s show.

The Oxfordshire Scout and Guide Gang Show is staged every year at Oxford’s New Theatre.

Show organisers are now looking for a musical director, and a rehearsal pianist, for their 2011 musical extravaganza, which will be the city’s 60th gang show.

Chris Cheetham, the musical director for the past two years and Tim Croston, the pianist this year, are too busy to take on the roles next year.

Director Paul Cox said: “These are voluntary roles but the Gang Show is a great show to be part of and we need people to come forward for these two challenging roles.

“It’s going to be the 60th gang show, so we would like to make the performances as impressive as possible.

“There will be more than 200 young people taking part in the performances.”

Rehearsals are due to start on September 13 and will be held on Monday nights until Christmas, and Sundays and Mondays until the show’s run at the theatre in March.

Rehearsals take place in the Scout hut at the junction of Marston Road and William Street in Marston.

In the past 25 years, the Gang Show has raised £27,000 for local charities in the county.

Anyone who is interested in filling either role should call Gang Show chairman Anthony Morris on 07958 528467 or director Paul Cox on 07590 324006.
