It is unfortunate that one of your readers is not fully aware of the facts concerning past events at the John Radcliffe Hospital children’s cardiac unit.
Sir Jonathan Michael took up his post of chief executive on April 6, 2010, so he cannot therefore be held responsible for events that took place prior to his appointment.
The main focus of Dr Kirkup and his review panel was for the period December 2009 to February this year.
It is therefore absurd for Adrian Taylor to ask for the resignation of Sir Jonathan. If anything, he should welcome him as a man who brings with him 40 years of experience of working within the NHS.
It will be interesting to see how Sir Jonathan and the trust respond to the review panel’s findings.
