A FOOTBALL-MAD mum who became the first winner of our new Face in the Crowd promotion wondered what she had done when a neighbour told her she was in the Oxford Mail.
Sarah Simmonds, from Great Haseley, was picked out by our photographer among the 7,552 fans at the Kassam Stadium on Saturday and netted herself £75.
She said: “My neighbour came and knocked on the door and told me I was in the paper before I was able to go and get my copy.
“I was a bit shocked, I wondered what I’d done.”
Season-ticket holder Mrs Simmonds, whose three children, Katie, Alison and Matthew, have learning difficulties, takes her family to every United home game as well as attending matches played by the learning-disabilities side Oxford City Casuals.
The 42-year-old said: “The money will probably go on tickets for the Wycombe game and also a bit of spending money for our holiday in Cornwall next week.”
The Face in the Crowd feature, supported by Minty Beds, will operate for every home League game played by Oxford United this season.
